Maria Anthymidou

Maria was born in Thessaloniki and as an athlete of Panthessalonikeios Association broke the national record in gymnastics. She graduated with honours from the State School of Dance (K.S.O.T.) and continued her studies in New Yorkwithscholarship of Onassis Foundation. She studied in Merce Cunnigham, Paul Taylor and Jose Limon schools of dance where she first came into contact with the Pilates method and Rolfing, Osteokinisi and Aikido. Few years later she attended the entire training course of the Pilates Method {Balanced Body System) in Mind and Body Pilates studio in Athens.Maria has worked as a dancer with several Dance Groups, such as Charis Mandafounis, Zouzou Nikoloudi, Mary Tsouti, Sophia Spyratou, Sine Qua Non, Accion Collectiva (Venezuela), Wendy Osserman Co., Rick Merill, Carol Childs (N.Yorki), etc. She has also worked as a choreographer and has collaborated with the N.York Greek Cultural Centre, the National Theatre, the Athens Concert Hall, the team of Sophia Spyratou “Chorotheatro Roes”, with DI.PE.THE, private troupes and television.Today, Mary is president of the dance group "Dancers". She has carried through with them three European international projects (View Chaos, Appendix, Holodram), concerning the relationship of art and technology, numerous productions and international tours. She is also founder and vice president of the Athletic Association of rhythmic gymnastics "A.S.O.CH. Athena "and graduate of the Panteion University of Political Science and History. Since 1993 she is teaching at Nicky’s Kontaxaki School of Dance and is making seminars for professionals and amateurs in Greece and abroad. Her lesson is based on techniques of Jose Limon and release and has gymnastic elements and improvisation.
